About Wick Press

“Those who spend the greater part of their time in reading or writing books are, of course, apt to take rather particular notice of accumulations of books when they come across them. They will not pass a stall, a shop, or even a bedroom-shelf without reading some title, and if they find themselves in an unfamiliar library, no host need trouble himself further about their entertainment. The putting of dispersed sets of volumes together, or the turning right way up of those which the dusting housemaid has left in an apoplectic condition, appeals to them as one of the lesser Works of Mercy. Happy in these employments, and in occasionally opening an eighteenth-century octavo, to see ‘what it is all about,’ and to conclude after five minutes that it deserves the seclusion it now enjoys, I had reached the middle of a wet August afternoon at Betton Court…”

– M. R. James, “A Neighbor’s Landmark”, Collected Ghost Stories

Like the happenstance of an old-time Christmas (or Winter Solstice) Ghost Story, we are all gathered, here, now, around this roaring fire. Our bellies are full, our spirits are light. The gas is dimmed, candles blown out, and the teller of the tale is about to begin…

Welcome, friends, to Wick Press. We are so glad you are here. As the master of the ghost story, M. R. James, says above, we can’t help but stop when we see a “collection” of books. Be it stall, store, or online press—readers and writers want places where we can peruse, purchase, browse, and collect books. They bring us joy, don’t they?

Wick Press began as a small independent publishing company in 2017. It takes time to get things rolling in the publishing world, and we are pleased and very excited to see the company growing, with four new projects scheduled for publication over the next two years!

  • Our Philosophy is simple: We care deeply about good books, the reading experience itself, literature and its theories and craft, and getting the right books to the right readers.
  • Our Mission Statement: Wick Press publishes high-quality fiction, specializing in beautifully-designed gothic, supernatural, “weird”, horror, and occult mystery books (fiction, poetry, nonfiction)in a unique interactive digital format—complete with original artwork, contextual information, and annotations.

At Wick Press, we see ourselves as one of those little M. R. James book stalls, one that offers you intriguing, delicious treats of wonder and mystery. We want you to enjoy your Wick Press experience; whether it be via a visit to our website, Wick’s Blog, our Facebook page; or the pages of our books, the vision of their authors, their original artwork, quality, and atmosphere.
